The following listed Area Attractions are an accomodation to our Kountry Kabin guests and are in no way indorsed or recommended by the Owners of this Vacation Cabin.  Please perform your own DUE DILIGENCE with regards to represented amenities and personal safety for you and your family.

We are located in the beautiful Blue Ridge Foothills of Western NC on The Green River. We are in Polk County not far from I-85 or I-26 just off Hwy 74 Between Rutherfordton, NC and Columbus, NC. The closest towns and cities (listed below) are some of the most picturesque mountain towns in NC.


Lake Lure: with just over 1000 residents, is home to hit movies such as Dirty Dancing and Last of the Mohicans. There are boat rides, dinner cruises and several nice water front restaurants on the lake. The lake has approximately 27 miles of shoreline, a sandy public beach, spectacular views, water skiing, fishing, boating, swimming, and is sure to be a hit with people of all ages.  Lake Lure offers spectacular views, water skiing, fishing, boating  and swimming. There are boat rides, a public beach, dinner cruises and several nice restaurants on the lake. (Check out La Estrada Italian Restaurant, Larkins on The Lake and the Bay Front Bar & Grill)  Chimney Rock offers great vistas, hiking trails, and many wonderful shops and eateries.  The Green River is one of  the most canoed  rivers in the southeast and is also a great state stocked trout fishing River.   www.lakelure.com


Chimney Rock : with its 175 residents has unique rock formations, quaint little shops, restaurants, motels, and of course Chimney Rock Park with an array of beautiful waterfalls, hiking trails and majestic mountain views. www.chimneyrockvillage.com and www.chimneyrockpark.com


Forest City: What is now Forest City began as a crossroads on the Shelby-Rutherfordton and Spartanburg-Lincolnton Roads. Originally, the town was incorporated as Burnt Chimney in 1877. A replica near the site of the original chimney adorns the public square today. The "chimney" was the remains of the McArthur home that marked the crossroads. Today, the population of Forest City is 7,450. The town remains t he commercial hub, there you will find all the  major food stores, Super Wal-Mart, Lowe’s home improvement center and a small mall anchored by  Belks. The legacy of "community betterment" can still be seen in the pride the town and its residents take in keeping Forest City a beautiful and livable community. www.forestcitync.com


Rutherfordton: A quaint little town of just over 4,100 residents and the county seat, is an easy 15 minute drive away. There you have a 150-bed hospital,  plus many antique, specialty shops, outlet stores and  Restaurants.  The local college,  Isothermal Community College, offers a full array of educational, hobby and adult courses.


Asheville: No matter when you decide to visit our magnificent mountains, you'll find plenty of things to do for the entire family in and around Asheville. Watch the mountains awaken as spring blankets the hillsides with wildflowers. Glorious summer brings warm days for outdoor adventures and cool nights for enjoying the hours after dark. Autumn cloaks the Blue Ridge Mountains with every shade of red, orange and yellow imaginable. Then, enjoy mild winter days in Asheville with easy access to the higher elevations that are dusted in snow. Anytime of the year, you can discover the region's rich cultural heritage at art galleries and artistic performances. Visit one of the area's historic attractions. Explore downtown Asheville's unique restaurants and eclectic shops. Delve into the mountains' endless opportunities for day trips. Experience the real Cold Mountain. Within minutes of the property you have Chimney Rock,  Lake Lure, Lake James, Hendersonville, Asheville, Saluda, Columbus,Tryon, Hickory, Boone & Blowing Rock. Six hospitals, all  the major food stores, Super Wal-Mart, A Brand New Lowes Home Improvement Center, Belk's, 3 Malls, plus many antique, specialty shops and outlet stores along with the Isothermal Community College offering a full array of educational, hobby and adult courses.

This is an outdoorsman’s paradise. You are close to many lakes (Lake Lure & Lake Bowen & Lake James & Lake Hickory, Moss Lake just to name a few. Lake James with 150 miles of shoreline and over 6,000 surface acres, is 30 miles away. It has been the setting of several movies one of which is the Last of the Mohicans. Lake James offers spectacular views, water skiing, fishing, boating and swimming. You may picnic,  canoe, hike and much more.


There is  plenty of golf in the area. Cleghorn Plantation is a first rate championship 18 hole course which is open the public, Marion Country Club,  Lake Hickory County Club And Silver Creek Plantation.  Fairfield Mountains at lake Lure, offers two premier golf courses Bald Mountain  and Apple Valley

There are several Horseback Riding stables in the area.  Some of these facilities offer a variety of activities from trail rides to lessons and stabling you own horses. Tryon, just minutes away, has hunt courses and steeplechase events each year in April.

In a little more than an hours ride we have several trout streams, three major lakes, some of the best hiking in the east, on the Daniel Boone trail over Grandfather Mountain, the Appalachian Trail and Linville Gorge ( one of only three Federal Wilderness areas east of the Rocky Mountains.)

There is excellent snow skiing at Sugar Mountain, Beech Mountain and a host of other smaller resorts.
